My bijous (Mon bijou ) 5.10
(Inspired by “Babamadhi”)
Created by Eda Zari
This is a medley with a number of motifs which my grandfather, Mane
Lela, inherited from his forefathers. It is a chronological collection
of rhythms and rituals lovingly preserved in the family treasure trove.
Here there is celebrating when the bridegroom sets off to pick up
his bride, when the wedding procession arrives at the bride’s
house, a feast of friendship and love. Such celebrations have served
to strengthen family ties at important moments of time. This potpourri
will remain with me like a jewel for the rest of my life.
Amazing Age 4.21
(A bit love storie)
Let me be with you,
Let me be near you
Or I’ll wither like straw in the sun.
Let me dream and be happy,
Just living with you.......
Zanat 4.35
(The fairy-like Zana of the night )
There is a girl
she lives alone in a world
that no body knows!
So every night
she used to walk through the darkness
the same old way .....
Some say that she ´s the "Zana of the Night"
When she sings
Same say she´s mad
And some say that´s so absurd
What she does....
"Zane moj Zane
asnje s´le prane
askush sekretin ty nuk ta njeh
Zane moj Zane
kaptove malne
vetem me yjet ti vallen hedh"
-
Beng- Beng 4.53
This is the rhythm of the llauta, a type of ancient lute from southern
Albania.
This “bang-bang” has been with the Albanian people and
their songs for centuries.
The llauta is played in homes when people gather around the table
to celebrate births, marriages and other traditional feasts. The clarinet
and the llauta are present at all ritual feasts in southern Albania,
and recently also in central Albania.
What a joy, what a celebration. Rhythm and music, body and soul in
one.
Tribute to “Cobani” 4.31
The Lela Family, Albanian music and art in general mourn will always
miss that great genius of the clarinet, Remzi Lela, the head of the
Lela de Permet Dynasty. He left us seven years ago and we will miss
the unique sounds of his art. Even as a young girl, when I peered in
at him from the doorway, I was amazed at how my mother’s brother
was able to communicate with his clarinet. The sounds, the motifs and
the melodies he created and preserved in the traditions of Përmet
always take me back to that wonderful world of harmony and colour, in
which music converses with the soul.
How I love you. You will always be my inspiration.
Malbi 5.35
(inspired by exile)
Morra rrugen ....! 4.51
(Accapela)
Malbi & Morra Rrugën (I took to the road) : two songs on the
same theme (Exile)
For centuries this has been a major theme in my country, and still is
among the Albanian people today. But exile is also a universal theme
and no one can cover his eyes, ears and mouth to it. The motif of these
pieces stems from an ancient song of southern Albania in which the men
of the village would set off in caravans for months on end, crossing
rivers, gorges and mountain passes in search of work in Janina (now
in northern Greece). Many lost their lives, though their families continued
to believe that they would one day return. This is dedicated to exile
and to the unbroken force to human survive.
Prelude to Albanian Nature 6.32
This song was born on a summer evening in the village of Pacomit (in
the countryside not far from the town of Përmet) where I was staying
with friends. The natural environment in this region is pure, virginal,
almost sacred to me. It was a magic moment since on that night, according
to tradition as I was told, the local people slept outside under the
stars, although no one was in a position to explain why this was the
only magical and mysterious night of the year. Flocks of sheep were
sleeping out on the open fields in the moonlight. The only sound to
be heard were the bells around their necks. The flowing streams seemed
to bear over the fields all the tranquillity of the moment. The local
people told me that on that night, the fairy-like Zanas would be at
the lakeside, singing and combing their golden hair. The tradition is
still maintained although no one has ever actually seen a zana. Many
people claimed, however, to have heard them singing. This was enough
inspiration for me to write this Prelude, dedicated to the beauty of
nature in the southern Albanian countryside around Përmet.

Ra Faja 4.57
A humorous song full of fire and fun.
Fair Faja with her kerchief falls from a fig tree.
Pikaloshe 5.06
This is the story of two sisters who married two brothers,
and all lived together in the same home. There they lived in peace and
harmony without envy or jealousy. But other people were envious of them,
though.
Is there a message to this story?
Age of Statement 4.28
I don’t know how long I’ve lived,
nor do I know how long I will survive...
When you get old and grey,
when wrinkles cover your face,
you will come to realize that everyone
has his own special Destiny.
“Kaba” - Never in cage
5.34
(inspired by the Beauty of Pains)
Created by Eda Zari & Mark Joggerst
This is a musical statement but also a statement of our human existence.
The desire to live life intensively with all notes, registers, hues
and colours. Fulfil your desires and dreams, and be free in your own
world, in a world without Cages.
Be whatever you want to be.

Music from "LAND OF BUNKERS"
Listen to the Music from "Land of Bunkers", a place that the
world forgot for 50 years.
What associations come to mind to you when you think about the music
of the "Land of bunkers"?
For the most people, probably none at all.
The former dictator, Enver Hoxha, put up 700.000 of Bunkers for three
million Albanian. They are still spread throughout Albania. They persist
as a symbol of paranoia , because they were first of all a manifestation
of the Albanian people´s isolation psychology.
It is this mentality which Eda Zari is determined to break down through
her musical key.
The beauty of Albanian music culture, rich in traditions, rhythms , polyphonies,
songs full of colors, honor, loyalty, and courage , based on harmony of
temptation, melancholy and joie de vivre and the beauty landscape of Albanian
lagoons and lakes rich in waterfowl is juxtaposed against the country's
sad history.
Zari is a prime representative of music culture at the interface between
the traditional and the modern. With "Statement" she symbolized
a glitter of freedom .
"Statement" is a musical visiting card of almost haptic effect,
which this little but great country will be able to use around the world.
A NOTE FROM MISS ZARI
Every time I record,
I hope to happen upon magical musical moments,
they´re so unpredictable and extremely valuable to me and for each
of us ...!
In seeking to penetrate into the spirit of Albanian polyphony, I wanted
to create an album which had elements of jazz, classical music, ethnic
music and some flavors which we couldn´t necessarily categorize
at all. We wanted also a unplugged sound from life performing instruments
so that would encourage us to reach the vitality of the Albanian rhythm
idiom. The legendary musicians of "Family Lela Dé Permet"
on this album were of similar mind: to show a side that very few people
know, and also to bring accents of Permet, Leskovik and South Albania
creating a truly fascinating multicultural rhythm & sound. In essential
aspects this music differs from traditional folk & jazz phrasing and
rhythm.
This amalgam is completed by the "ISO´s "vocal, cannon
and "Kaba" elements.
All this spiritual background & diversity inspired us to create a
unique sound with an own Statement.
"It doesn´t matter where the music comes from, it only matters
how intense it is"
Music has something to do with search and discovery, with identification.
I dedicated this Album to the Humanity and Mother Nature.
This is also my Tribute to the legendary artist , the greatest Albanian
Clarinetist Mr. Remzi LELA "COBANI"
"Si dhe te gjithe Shqipetaret anembane kudo ne Bote.
Dedikimi im per JU."
